Bread loafs that look like body parts

Updated on 13 October 2026. The original 2007 post is kept below.

The artist behind the “body bakery”

The baker is Thai artist Kittiwat Unarrom, the son of a baking family from Ratchaburi province, about 100 km west of Bangkok. He started the project as a fine-arts master’s student around 2005, using anatomy books and memories of a forensics museum to sculpt heads, hands, feet and organs from dough. Raisins, cashews and chocolate add the gruesome details.

His point is surprisingly gentle: don’t judge by appearances. As he told the Associated Press, “When people see the bread, they don’t want to eat it. But when they taste it, it’s just normal bread.” He has said the work is also about how short-lived bread, and life, really are.

The bread is so realistic that it still fools people. In 2020, Reuters fact-checked a viral photo claiming to show a head from a “cannibal meat market”. It was one of Kittiwat’s loaves. Pass the butter.

More food in disguise: brain-shaped jello and brain cupcakes.

A bakery located in Thailand sells these quite unique pieces of bread to it’s customers. The Baker / artist Kittiwat Unarrom has developed his own method of baking gruesomely authentic looking, edible human body parts bread.

The video could might as well have been shot at the set of a regular zombie movie.

I don’t think that i could put that to my mouth.
