Virginia style school lunch
I wonder how many parents actually realize what sort of garbage their kids are putting in to their mouth in the public school cafeterias? Well, looking at these pictures of school lunch menu from the Harrisonburg School district in Virginia definitely brings back some school dinner traumas to myself.
What is also notable, that these pictures are not taken by disappointed students, but they have bee put to the internet by the school system officials themselves.

Grant, alot of the school foods are unhealthy but most of the schools serve the food the is most popular with kids. The chicken fries are quite popular to kids along with burgers, hotdogs, pizza and other kid fave foods.

where are the vegetables? fruits? whole-grain products?
my schools never had a cafetaria, it’s common here to bring your own food. and even if there was one, i’d be happy to get up earlier to make something.

@annet: There are green beans on the left of the CSS tray and a corn on the cob on the right. For the HCP platter, there’s some broccoli on the left side and fruit cocktail on the right.
The first two pictures don’t look that bad, but the last two options that are just plain unappealing especially for the HCP.

My first school seved cheap buffet meals & the sed school I went to only ever had burgers, chicken nuggets, & corndogs, so no complaints there.

You should watch Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution..
It’s amazing to see what the kids at school in America are being fed, and how the systems set in place by the government to help ensure that the kids are getting proper nutrition are actually what is keeping Jamie from giving them proper, healthy foods.
